I am looking to boost the horsepower on my 1990 Chevy Silverado and would like help.

This car is systematic, hyyydromatic...why it's greased lightning!

I would put a K&N kit in it,dual exhaust and headers..you wouldn't believe the difference that would make..Stay away from the chip unless you want to get 10 mpg less gas mileage!!

I have friends with chips in their cars and trucks and their fuel mileage went up. Especially with the Ford Powerstrokes... HP boost of 80 and torque gain for 140 just by putting a chip in it... Course diesel motors and gas are 2 different ball games... Mileage went up from 16 mpg to 19mpg. Most chips only adjust spark timing and a few other things.. As well as removing rev limiters and governers. And Greg why would he want a dodge... Damn thing would be in the shop more than he'd actually drive it... I'll give dodge props on their powertrain and suspension but when it comes to a vehicle thats built solid... They forgot to put more time and effort into that. Its pretty bad around here... The dodge dealer ship is so backed up with service work they have them take their trucks and cars to the ford and chevy dealers to work on... i find that rather amusing myself.

Sell your house, move over here to the UK and get a proper car. mean we get loads more BHP outta our European cars, and if you wanna do it properly, you need Japanese..........

Do you boys have Honda S2000 's over there? 240bhp from a NORMALLY ASPIRATED 2 litre
Or for mid range an Evo VII from Mitsubishi about 260ish from a Turbo 4 pot 2 litre

It kills me to see the US cars.........really kills me. You lot need a price hike in fuel costs to get some REAL development in engines from standard units.

I mean, in 1987 Vauxhall/Opel (GM owned) launched a 2 litre normally aspitated engine (4 pot, twin cam 16valve) in a car called the Astra GTE16v

It had 156 bhp as standard. Sodium filled exhaust valves, hollow camshafts, sequential fuel injection. OK it didnt put the power down too well, 'specially in the rain (hehe) but that beast got leant to all the motoring magazines and the fastest test they achieved was 0-60 in 6.9 seconds..most magazines could do it in less than 7.5 seconds. And on to 135 mph

That is in a 3 door hatchback (compact)

Zak, can your horsepower tow a boat?
My boat can tow a boat ;)

The very fact he has a truck indicates he probably hauls around stuff...which torque is good for. He's obviously lacking a bit in speed...which is where horsepower comes in.
My boats also lacking in horsepower, but after 333,000kilometers, that's to be expected.

Yeah Zak lets hook up bumpers and see who can pull the other one around. :) Besides I dropped a new crate motor in rated at 300 hp and w/ true dual exhaust it has power aplenty now.

Ouch crate motor i bet that was a pretty penny. Would hve been better off putting a little money into the motor that was in it probably :)

Nah Pred it was on it's last legs, an old 2 bolt main that put out 205 HP. I did not even get the full core price on it.

eww 2 bolt main :( thats why ya didn't get the full price. Sounds like a crate was the way to go then glad it worked out good for ya though. 300 ponies is nice in a truck. My 72 Chevy is about 325 and its fun to drive.
