XP Activation Still Sucks

Post by Schwartz »

I formatted and now I am on the phone waiting for a MS rep to reactivate because XP won't reactivate over the net on it's own. Damn this sucks, been sitting here like 20 min now. I should ask for a link to a Activation crack when someone gets on the phone. ;) It's pretty much the same hardware I did the original activation on too and it is still making me call them.

Luckily I don't have to worry about that, had my office buy me a copy of XP Pro, and put it under our corp license. No reactivation for me! Though, I don't know if you all are aware of it but theres a "patch" for office XP, and once you install it it does the same as XP. I added a few drives and things to my PC, and although I didnt have to reactivate XP, I DID have to activate office XP. Apparently, they just want you to put the CD back in to prove you own a copy, but it was still a pain in the ass. So I dont recommend anyone getting the "patch" if they upgrade a lot.

You don't need the patch to have activation issues with Office XP (unless you have a corporate version). The retail version of Office XP has the the same activation crap that WinXP does.

Do to my own stupidity I had to re acivate over the phone too. You read them a 42 digit number, they read you another 42 digit number. Being mildly dyslexic that was a hassle. I finally got it right tho...I was lucky though, I called New Years day and got right through. :)

I read somewhere there was a file somewhere in the system32 folder that you could copy to a safe place then use it to replace the original after a format. Providing you didn't change the hardware. I can't remember the name of the file tho.
