My dads been shopping for a new computer ever since he got cable last week... His P166 just wasn't fast enough anymore for him...lol I say about time the POS was 5 years old... Anyways here's what we ended up getting at a pretty nice price... $534 for everythign below... He should be happy with it...
AMD XP 1600+ Retail
Epox 8HKAL
256 Megs Crucial PC2100
Radeon 32 Meg DDR
40 Gig WD 7200 ATA/100
Floppy
Enlight Mid Tower w/ 300W PSU
I don't think he'll know what to do with it....lol I had to do some serious talking to get him to go with a AXP instead of a PEE4... He's old and think's Intel is just the greatest...lol I had to say Dad you know how much of a nerd i am with this and i only buy the best... Finally convinced him to go with the AXP. Anyone used the 8HKAL board.... IT looks like its the same board as the 8HKA+ but most of stuff is done via jumpers instead of the bios... It won't be overclocked anyways so i figured it would be plenty fast and its the kt266a chipset...
I just got a nice little setup for my dad today...

I have the 8K7A+, it's a different chipset (AMD761) but same manufacterer and I've had good luck with it so far on my Athlon 1600+. My friend has the 8KHA+ and an Athlon 1600 as well and it's been workin' great. EPoX have some nice athlon boards, I think.

The L version has one less PCI slot and all the voltage tweaks are via jumpers... And the board is a little smaller... Other than that they are the same.. i have the 8K7A that was the board i was going to get him but there were out of stock at newegg when we ordered so i got that one it was only 3 bucks more. I love my 8k7a gonna keep it until i absolutely have to upgrade i love this board more than i did my KK266
