Where do I find drivers for my SB live 5.1 for windows 98?

Post by Kakarot »

I go to creative's website and ask for drivers for my SB live 5.1 for windows 98 and they say they have none... WTF? how can you not have win98 drivers? So are there any? I tried using standard Live drivers but they didn't work.

Tried posting a link but the link gave me an error. Go to http://www.creative.com and click on support then download files I was able to pull them up from there but couldn't make the link work for some reason

Creative's drivers database sucks. Try looking for WinME or Win95 drivers. Drivers for all Win9x OSes will be the same.

I was able to find what I needed <a target=new href="http://www.hotwinfiles.com/software_lis ... #">here</a>.

I went to creative's site and did as you instructed dad and the only download choices it gave me were software updates(for their software not drivers). God, what a POS site, I don't think I'll be owning another Creative product after this one. The three options it gives me for downloads are:

PC2XPDrvUpdate.exe
This update includes:
*The latest NOMAD Jukebox 20GB/Jukebox/Jukebox C Drivers for Windows XP.
*The latest NOMAD II / NOMAD IIc / NOMAD II MG Drivers for Windows XP.
*The latest PlayCenter file for the Windows.

Note:

*Applicable only to users with PlayCenter ver 2.20 and above.
*This updates works for Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows 2000 and Windows XP
CreativeORUpdate.ZIP
Creative Online Registration Update
CTOR-PATCH-1-A3

Description:
This is a new standalone update for Creative Online Registration for users running Windows 95, Windows 98/98SE, Windows NT4.0, Windows 2000 and Windows ME.
ws4upg.exe
Update for Wave Studio program
I tried the first file but it didn't make the computer find the card.. it just loaded and that was it. Didn't even ask to restart. I think it was just an update for their playcenter software(which I did load). The second two are obviously not drivers. Oh well... thanks for the replies guys.

I got really tired of Creative a while back, for the same reasons and decided to try some other products. I bought a Hercules Game Theatre. Not only do I really like the card, but they also have their act together with regard to regular driver updates and an easy to navigate web presence.

I don't miss spending a half hour or more on Creative's spam site trying to find a driver.

That's another reason I switched from a sb live value. That reason along with how they don't like sharing irq's along with the cpu usage. I bought a $16 ecs thundersound 5.1 and I honestly cannot hear any difference at all from the live value. Of course the bad thing is now I have no clue where to get updated drivers for it and the ecs site doesn't even mention this soundcard. :lol But the ones that came with it work just great anyway.

*edit

ecs doesn't make it, no wonder I couldn't find drivers for it.
