Pretty interesting article, as there are lots of details on how stock commercial helicopters were modified to look and function like combat choppers for this show & movie back in the 80s, way before you could just rely on CGI to fake it.

I was never much of a fan of Airwolf, but I love Blue Thunder. Still take it out and watch it once in a while. What always made the movie more believable IMO is that Roy Scheider actually flew the real chopper during filming of some scenes. They made a big deal about that when the film was released. So fewer fake closeups of the actor pretending to fly.
