It looks like the front has some sort of plexi-glass or some material to protect the driver from something like that. He does continue to drive it in a controlled manner and you can see him walking away normally. Either that or the dude has an extremely high tolerance for pain.

I'm going to guess this isn't uncommon. It looks like he's covered up (almost like a parka) and does have a windshield and roof. Still, I would be concerned about some splatter. The sides appear to be open. That looked like it would be scary as hell from his vantage point.

I think that Is Aluminum so low melting point. Also explains the lack of sparks.
