MicroSD card jammed in Amazon Kindle Fire 10HD

Post by darcy »

Hi, everyone : )

So,,, I've been using Kindle since January.
My internal storage space was running low.

So #2,,, I purchased SanDisk Class 10 128GB MicroSD from Amazon, specifically for their Kindles.=

https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-micro-Me ... ro+sd+card

I insert as directed, closed the latch, but it was not detected.

So #3,,, hubby decides to opens it up and pushes it in further.
TOO far.

Now it is jammed in there and we can't get it out.

He tried tweezers, ~ bad move, I think.

Then he googled and found some sort of "remedy" of taking another MicroSD and using Crazy Glue on it, and sliding it in, letting glue dry, in hope of pulling out stuck MicroSD.

Before he tries this crazy thing,, I'm posting here if anyone has any other ideas?

Thank you! : )

That's a new one for me, but that seems like a working theory. If it were me, I'd pull the thing apart & push it out. But that's me.

Really? Now you have me wondering what I might use instead of another MicroSD ,,, something less expensive that would fit,,,

Saw video on taking one apart, but that would warranty,, and is daunting prospect !

I'd go buy a small pair of forceps. You can usually get them cheap at a flea market. Unlike tweezers, they have ridges in the tips that give them some grip.

Thank you, FP,,

My husband has something like that,,, he's tried all his very tiny "tools" that he uses when working on the innards of his basses,,, but the space on either side of the jammed MicroSD is just not wide enough to get a 2-pronged anything in there.

I reckon will have to attempt the super glue method, but I'm not going to ruin another MicroSD,,, maybe a metal nail file?. First I have to find one,, everything is emery board nail files these days,,,

Metal won't glue very well. Maybe a thin paper nail file?

My concern would be that whatever you put in with superglue will gum things up or possibly become stuck as well. But I'd certainly try something cheaper than an SD card.

Yeah, I use super glue a lot. It tends to go everywhere you don't want it to. If you do try it, just a TINY drop is all you need.

I know we had 3 tubes of super glue, and can't find one when you need it,, will have to buy a tube.

Well, my account at Imgur just kept spinning and spinning, so I used box.com ,,, you will have to click on link to view pic. I'm sorry it's so blurry, but I think you get the idea,,,

I honestly think he shoved it in waaay too far to get it out, plus it's bent from when he tried to get it out on the first attempt,,

You sure your hubby used forceps? Forceps have the ability to clamp down. I see more than enough room for a small pair of forceps to fit, lock around it, and pull it out.

He has several hemostats, they clamp down,,, they were too thick at the end, I reckon.

The height / thickness of the slot on the kindle is less than 1/8".
