I'll add you. Best time to hit mine is during working hours since I am on the corp. VPN on the laptop and it is slow as balls. At night I am usually streaming and/or downloading.

Yessir. Nothing fancy, yet. But I always have it running. Shoot me your email, I'll send you an invite.

Going to jump on the Synology NAS train myself.

How's that Synology working out? Ever get Plex going? I've got plex on a QNAP, but it struggles when it has to transcode and totally chokes on h265. Mine has an older quad core than yours so it's got me wondering how much difference the newer chip would make.

It's working great for what I use it for (DVD and MP4 playback on my media center PCs).

Naw, haven't bothered setting up Plex on it.

Much faster than my old Unraid box, especially on writes.

Get Plex up and running so we can share. You could just stream from us instead of having to keep copies of everything.

One of the small offices I help on the side just put in the same 918+ model filled w/ 4TB drives. Very nice.

FP, in case it's of interest to you, Synology released a O365 backup solution. This model appears to come with 10 free licenses (not sure if it's perpetual or only the first 12 months...):

If it's free, heck, I'd run with it. Not sure if you use O365 for your consulting business, but I'd recommend backing up the data if you are using it and are not already backing it up. :)

I'm semi-retired nowadays. The wife and I live comfortably off our investments.

I dropped most of my business clients except a few good friends, and I still do some residential stuff to stay busy. Most of my clients are still on Office 2010 or earlier. A few have migrated to 2016 (I really hate to recommend the subscription Office 365 for a small business. It may make sense for an Enterprise but not a small 5 user company).

For myself, I despise all office versions after 2003 (I detest the "ribbon" design) and since I, personally, have VERY basic needs in a word processor and spreadsheet, I stick to the familiar (and blazing fast on a modern PC!) Office 2003 with the 2007 Compatibility Pack and all it's latest security patches, plus I have macros and URL links disabled for security (and I run as a non-admin on all my PCs anyway). It's all I need. I'd actually run something like Open Office if it wasn't for the occasional compatibility issues with documents saved in Office.

I do own a few Office 2010 licenses, but I've never used them. If something ever happens to finally force me off Office 2003, then I'll just go to 2010 I guess :P

I find the latest version of Office a bit too bloaty for me. There's no good reason why friggin' Word should take more than 2 seconds to load on a modern Core i7 off an SSD drive.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I did buy a Small Business Premium license months back for my side work (wish I would have waiting since it's a lot cheaper for me now...), but mainly for the online mail and having it for keeping up with the features at the time. I wouldn't pay for it for the Office Suite alone, but there are subscriptions w/out that. It's like $5/month for the cheapest level w/ a lot of stuff minus Office. Of course, if you don't need a vanity domain email address, not really worth it much at that point.

Sorry to resurrect, but can someone whom I am sharing Plex libraries with give a test and see how it streams to you now? I set the upload quality to max, so curious on how it performs.
