I've been using the Toshiba Canvio 1 & 2TB drives. I usually buy the club pack bundled with a big flash drive at Sams Club like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product

You're getting the flash drive for free in that bundle.

I've been using these drives since they sold the them in the 500GB USB 3.0 version. I have several, and between all my clients they must have dozens. I use them for on site daily backups and drive imaging and have my clients swap between two of them weekly to maintain an offsite backup (in addition to a cloud backup). In the 9+ years I've been using them, I have had maybe one fail.

Rock solid drives.

Seconded on the Toshiba drives. I have a few kicking around at home, as well as a small stack at work I use for machine backups and the like. Never had one fail on me yet. That bundle is awesome too, I'm going to have to remember that next time I need to restock.

Thanks i have a 4 - 5 year old 1 tb Toshiba unit giving greef so wasn't sure if to try another . but i also remember it took a short floor drop . so it could of been from that. I will try another and its $5 cheaper then the WD. do get a 3 year on the wd and only 2 year warranty on the Toshiba . like most you will know right away if there a problem anyway.
not like in the old days when on a wim they crash.

I've also been using three of the 1TB Toshibas as the DVR recording drive in my two Media Center PCs for something like the last four years. These drives get hammered all day long. One drive failed last year but it turned out to be the USB interface not the drive itself. Plugged the drive into Sata to USB caddy and copied everything to a newer 2TB Toshiba drive and used the old drive in a laptop. That's the only one I've owned that had any kind of failure.

I have several of the older 500GB versions that I've retired and used to archive files and stored them in my safe deposit box.

I ordered one a week ago from Newegg (8tb) and it looks like someone took a hatchet to it.
