pros, cons?
ive been toying with the idea of getting one of the smaller ones for a boot drive.

yes

i havent tried any high performance runs but it seems
sequential read = unbeatable
random read = same or slower than a normal hdd
sequential write = same or slower than a normal hdd
random write = slower than a normal hdd.
again keep in mind that i have only used crappy ones
i hear the samsung and intel blow normal hdd's out of the water

So far, the Velociraptor is very comparable to the lower end ones, but much higher capacity. A pair in raid is unbeatable (even by the Intel & Samsungs) until the solid state technology improves.

Just, whatever you do, DON'T EVER run a disk utility like Defrag, a Scandisk sector scan, or any sector checking/correcting software like Spinrite on an SSD. You don't even want to run a particularly intensive HDD benchmark that does writes. I can see this being a real problem unless the OS and utilities are designed to be aware of SSDs and warn you, or until they get dramatically increase SSD lifespans.

SSDs do not need to be defragged or have sector error checks done, and the massive amount of write operations performed during one of these scans will dramatically shorten the life of the memory cells.

Reads don't cause any problems, but the memory cells have a limited number of writes that can be performed on them before they start failing.
