Recording Sound in Vista 64

I think I know the answer to this but I would like some input:

Recently my MB died so I upgraded to this:

XFX 680i LT Motherboard
4 x 1G Patriot PC 6400 (4 4 4 12)
Q6600 Quad Core CPU
EVGA 8800 GTS 320
Auzen Prelude 7.1 Sound Card
Western Digital 320G 7200 RPM HD
Windows Vista Home Premium 64 Bit

Everything seems to run okay except for when I go to record sound through the line-in on my card. The first time I made a recording, it recorded fine. The next day, I couldn't get any sound through my line in or in the recording monitors. What is strange is that I can hear the line in, just not record it. No settings were changed from on day to another. So I uninstall/ re-install the drivers for the card. The sound is now back and I proceed with recording.

A little aside on what I use to record/edit. I use CDWav to record because it's a very lightweight program that records directly to the hard drive and has a timer to set so I can record if I'm not there. I use Audacity 1.3.4 for editing. CDWav is great for recording but lacks any normalizing or fading functions.

Back to the story. From what I could tell from trying to recreate the problem, everything was fine as long as I didn't start Audacity. Once I did, the "analog mix" on the recording side wouldn't record. I submitted a support ticket to Auzen describing the problem and the answer I got made me realize they don't grasp what is going on. I'm still in communication with them on the issue. In the meantime, thinking it was the card or drivers, I uninstalled the Auzen card and installed my Audigy. I thought I had the problem fixed because I couldn't re-create the problem. However, when I went to record, the recording itself sounded like crap. It was very choppy-like it wasn't being sampled correctly. This I thought was just because it was an old card not really supported in Vista.

SO, I uninstall it and re-install Auzen. Same problem, I can hear the line-in but can record it. I also can't record from the mic or the "what you hear" selections.

I'm thinking the answer is Vista itself. I have a spare drive so I'm going to install XP-Pro with the same hardware and see what happens. If everything works, I'll just dual boot: Use XP for recording and Vista for everything else.

If anyone has any ideas, let me know. This is getting quite frustrating.

I had problems with mic input w/650i chipset, using vista as well. Finnaly updated to latest drivers for sound card and problem went away.

I'm using the latest drivers for my soundcard. Hopefully my problem will get fixed in the next driver set.
