Windows 98

Post by beef »

Ok, so, I have this computer runnning windows 98, yeah I know. Its for my mom, and it was free and it actually works. She doesnt need any more then that. So, I am trying to hook it up to the cable modem, and for some reason it just isn't wanting to work at all. I know that the nic works, and it shows up on the router and when it is hooked directly up to the modem. It just doesnt want to seem to find the signal. Anyone got any ideas, I would be greatly appreciative....

Thanks,
Beef

You need to explain a bit more. Not sure what you mean by "shows up on the router".

Can you connect the 98 PC directly to the modem and make it work? Are you aware that when you connect the cable modem to a different device you have to power off the modem and power it back on?

Are you getting an IP assigned to th 98 system when connected to the router? If so, can you ping the router? If so, can anyone else connected to the router get internet?
