Does the Direct TV Digital Video Recorder replace your existing receiver? Do you just place your card in the new unit and program it? Do I replace the old receiver with the new one?

I see BB has this one. I already have direct TV but am I going to have to pay for any additonal services to record something?

Thought I'd ask here instead of asking the boneheads at BB or CC. :)

the TiVo unit will replace your DirecTV receiver

this is the great thing about it

it is well worth the extra 4.99 a month for this unit

Comcast is going to be offering a DVR starting next month around here in lieu of the digital tuner for a bit extra a month. I think I'm going to try it out.

I have a friend who showed me his DirectTV Tivo and blew me away.

I just use my 9700aiw to record a few shows.

Now that I dont have a LAN run I guess I can even watch some of them. :(

yes, I was going to do the PC route, but the DirecTV DVR does one thing the PC can't

record two shows @ once, and that is a huge bonus when two people use the thing

there are 1-2 on windows that use multiple tuners , 0ne for Linux that will record for every card you put in it and only limited by your terrabyte of disk space you bought not wasteing your money on XP :p
but i'd rather not waste electrcity with the PSU and opt for DTV and DTiVo instead atleast you save 5 a mon. not having a standard TIvo

you could do it with a PC, but then you need two DTV reveivers hooked to it, so it is better to get the DTIVO ;)

My question is will it record in HD even if you don't have a HDTV? Cause that would be some awesome TV show recordings you could move over to the computer and compress using your favorite compressor. I know that HDTV and PDTV rips are the new types of TV show rips that are showing up.

HD is a different box and takes 10 the space per hour but you dont need a HDTV to view it(because you wont be if your ripping it to ur PC :D ) . and you will only get 480P on your dvd+R
Have my EYE on 26" Phillips wide/flatscreen 450 for non OTA(Bestbuy) and 600 with OTA capabilities(curciut City),but its only for my Xbox
