I too have wondered this.. I've seen some use DynaMat, but why pay for it? I believe what pugsley is saying is true, it will act as a sound dampeneer

i dont know if it will work as well, but it cant be that bad. all it is is rubber to absorb the sound and lessen vibration (also causes sound). so i would say give it a try.

well correct me if im wrong....but the ice and water sheild is just a solid sheet of rubber. Whereas most of the sound dampening material/foam isnt just solid. it has a bunch of little holes and such

Thats how I thought the sound dampening gets its effectiveness, because of the more surface that the sound could get lost into. If the material is just a solid piece, it wouldnt be any more effective than just the case to begin with. But because its rubber, it could absorb some sound and vibrations, but not as much as a material with the holes and other little nooks and crannys for sound to travel into

I've used Dynamat sound dampening material. It's a heavy solid rubber. I got it from NewEgg, although most automotive audiophile shops carry it including Best Buy (it's used in car doors to reduce bass vibration).

It works - definately made my rig quieter. Most cases vibrate from the fans and drives - it just acts like a drum amplifying the noise. It's amazing how much this stuff will quiet it down.
