p4 mobo recommendation

Post by b-man1 »

looking for a mobo for a buddy...but i'm way out of the loop for p4 boards (all my home built are AMD). would like to keep it under $100.

my prefered brands for AMD are Shuttle and Asus...but i don't want to make a direct comparison since they will have different chipsets, etc.

he is looking for onboard LAN, audio, but doesn't care about RAID.

thanks-

How about an Abit IS7-E. I'm using one in my newest P4 rig. The original model had some problems with the microphone causing static when enabled, but other than that, its never given me a problem. It's the Springdale chipset (865) and comes with onboard audio (Realtek) and onboard NIC (3 Comm). It supports dual channel DDR 3200 RAM and SATA hard drives. I have a P4 2.4C in mine and it ran flawlessly at 3.0 GHz.

When I bought mine back in June, they were $99.00 at New Egg, so I would imagine it would be cheaper now.

For under $100.00 I would recommend the IS7 as well.
