Question about opticals

Post by VidmanII »

What's the story on running both a cdrw and dvdrom on the same cable? I know back in the win98 days it was a bad idea and you'd get warning prompts from most burning progs etc., etc......

Have things changed with XP or is it still a funky setup? If not, which should be master/slave?

Anybody?

I have a Liteon CDRW and a Sony DVDRW on the same cable, with the Liteon as the master and the Sony as the slave. I've had no problems so far, no buffer underruns, nada. Only "problem" is that I wouldn't recommend using one while burning something with the other.
Welcome to the machine.

No problems here either. It's fairly common, and I'd rather have 2 optical drives on the same chain than a HD sharing a chain with an optical drive and being slowed down to udma 33 speeds.

I run my Lite On Burner on same channel as my Pioneer Slot Load DVD with no problem at all. Even doing a disk copy on the fly has caused no problems.

That's all good. :) Reason I ask is that if I enable my lone SATA channel on my mobo, it disables the primary IDE. Thus, I'd have to run both my burner and dvd together on the secondary IDE. But if that's not a prob, then I guess I'm good to go.

Thanks for the tips. 'ppreciate it.
