Thinking about going back to school...
I'm thinking of taking a course in computer science. Any advice?
Advice... stay away from anything related to PC's... and i'm dead serious... The whole IT field is so flooded. I know people with CS degrees and they are working in warehouses doing grunt labor because they cannot get a job with anything computer related...
I've been pondering the idea of going back to school. If i do its gonna be for nursing... every state has a shortage of nurses. Most hospitals start out at 20/hr right out of school. My aunt has been a nurse for 10 years now and is making over 30 an hour and works a min. of 50 hours a week because they are short staffed and can't find enough qualified people. 20 years ago you would very seldom see a male nurse but these days i swear there are more male nurses than there are females. It wouldn't bother me a bit.

a comp sci degree is virtually worthless...that is why people are not getting jobs with one. the only jobs i have seen people get from having a CS degree is when a manager that has a CS degree will only hire someone that has one...to perpetuate the myth that a CS actually means anything.
did that sound mean?
truthfully...the IT field is not good, as everyone else said. many of the people i work with have multiple certifications in MANY areas....cisco routing, microsoft, security, etc...and they aren't even thinking of going anywhere. i can't imagine a CS graduate having a chance compared to real world experience.
if you want to spend $$$ on education i would spend it on study material and a few extra pc's at home to learn solid networking and hardware skills. OR, for something different...go UNIX. or DBA. learn Oracle or SQL programming. SQL programmers that know their stuff are worth ALOT in the business world.

what ever you do . go back to school it will pay off in the long run -even if you go and get a degree in computers get a 2nd for back up !
the Last time I was Talking to myself . I got into such a heated argument . that is why I swore I never talk to that guy again. you know what it worked now no buddy talking to me.

well if you're only going to take a single course or two, i would recommend database management systems or database administration. but as everyone else said, dont take comp sci for a degree. i just graduated with a cs degree (4 years ago, this field *was* open) but i took it because i enjoy computers, so it doesnt really bother me. i dont think my peers have been able to get worthwhile jobs, i havent even attempted because i'm going to grad school for my mba. its supposedly pretty bad here in the northeast at least.
