RAM question.
just wondering if jumping from say 2100 DDR to 3500 DDR would make any noticble difference. Not planning on upgrading any time soon, but I was just wondering if it would be worth it or not...when the time does come.

The 3500 will run on a higher bus speed than the 2100 will. So the only way you will see an increase in performance is if you increase the bus speed. If you just plug in the 3500 and don't change the bus speed it will run at the same speed the 2100 is running at now. The Nforce 2 mobo let you change the memory bus independent of the fsb that the cpu runs on but most other mobo's have the two locked together so you would need a processor that could run at the higher bus speed as well as the ram.

If you have an NForce2 mobo you can set your RAM clock independent of your CPU clock. Dunno about P4s.
I just got a bargain at the Red-Eye LAN on two 512Mb sticks of PC3200. When I get a chance I'm going to play around with increasing my ram clock.

you will definatly notice when you overclock, as you will hit a wall with the 2100 faster, as mentioned above alot of mobos let you set the ram clock independant of the cpu
my p4 2000@2500 runs on a 125 fsb
but i have my pc2100 overclocked at 156x2
