Most over priced PC hardware?
i voted video cards...but then thought about it. a video card has ALOT of technology packed onto it. not only does it contain a highly advanced cpu (or gpu if we are being technical), but also alot of high speed memory and various IO ports depending on the model, along with decoding/acceleration hardware, etc.

I would agree to a point on that, but then look at all the work a 1700xp, 256ddr, and a cheap but good $60 M/b does. You can build a pretty darned good system for about $300 -$400 (maybe 2500xp 333fsb) total then drop $400 for JUST video!!
You gotta admit a whole entire system does much more work and is made up of many more parts than just that one $400 video card
I voted ram though, smallest part of the system and costs as much as a hard drive, good cpu, or even a decent system board!! I am pretty sure the drives, cpu, and system baords do much more work than that one little stick!

Ok back on topic ..
I voted video card a few days ago, but I no longer thing so .. my Sapphire 9500 just came and I've successfully soft modded it to unlock the other 4 pixel pipelines the same as the 9700 .. currently working on OC'ing it and finding that sweet spot ... so far I've got it at 301 core/330 mem with no problems.. I'll post a full write up once I'm done.
All for $140.

As far as the PSU thing goes, I've never paid more than $55 for one. I disagree with "you get what you pay for" mantra when it comes to PSU's. Right now I'm using a $55 Enlight 420W in my main rig that's OCed 500 MHz, running @ 203FSB and a $30 no-name 500W (Arrow ??) in my kidz' rig that's OCed 740 MHz, running @ 210 FSB.
I get a kick out of all these peeps running out and blowing $100-200 for a "name" PSU. I think alot of times you're paying for that "name". I simply check amp ratings to the +5v and +12v and take it from there.

I'm going to have to go with SCSI cables. They're #$@*&^! ridiculous. Retail they cost as much as a PSU, and all they are is a bunch of wires with some plugs.
FC-AL cables are bad too, but at least I can make my own so it doesn't bother me nearly as much.
At least I've cured the problem for a while: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 31494&rd=1

I would have to say Power Supply. A video card would seem to be more difficult to develop and manufacture and when you consider all the games they allow you to play (How much is a Gamecube, PS2, X-Box? Yeah.) and the features they have packed in them. It seems like a bargin when you can pick up a quality video card for less then $150 considering a console would set you back just as much.
I figure a Cpu requires a lot of research and such. AMD seems to price them right, can't say the same of Intel. AMD doesn't seem out of wack.
Yeah, the PSU is overpriced. Definitely. How much can they cost to make? I'm sure they don't require that much R&D to put together decent ones either...my .02

Good grief, Looks like I am still the only vote that 6-12 little chips stuck on a 3" board for $80-$100 is too high as the most over priced hardware
I can get a 333fsb cpu or a whole system board cheaper than that little ram stick. Even a large hard drive (about 100-120 gig) is down to the cost of good stick of 512mb ddr.
2 Sticks 512ddr is about the price of a 4x dvd burner
And I am doing pretty good captures and some light gamming with an ATI AWI 7500 video card, last I looked it was only around $130 or so, alot less than 2 sticks of 512 ddr ram.

i feel ram .video cards ,then the case when you buy a better computer case like a
for $200 you get a case like this in the stripped version plus shipping and no power suppy or fans !
or for like $25-$39 you can buy a case like this with a power supply !
and they charge us more for a diffrent case color when they dont cost them a quarter to change the color added to make the unit !!
or to spray paint it blue or black!

I'd go with cpu being that if you want one that's new and state of the art, you pay major $$$. Wait a few months and that same cpu sells cheaply.
Sure, to buy the latest and greatest high-perf video card is costly too but most people (non-gamers) don't need those and one can usually buy an older higher res video card that will play most games w/o going broke too. Not many people who use PCs need a costly video card.
I've also never had problems with cheaper power supplies (less than $30), they work for me.
