I can say i wont go back to Directpc Satellite systems. Afer the constant headaches and aggravation from them we finally just fired them. First it was thier software often times would just lock up the computer. Then after they upgraded the software the next thing we know we are getting less download speed than before and constant Satellite uplink errors. This was a two way dish and we have two of them cause they insisted the first one wasnt the right one for diect duo. As it turns out the second one is identical as the first one
I cant get DSL thats 19,800 ft away.......And cable well its down the street and they wont cross the road to me unless i pay them 3000 dollars. Fire to Wire is another one that might work but they wont guarranttee a speed and of course they want more money than its worth.
So that leaves me on dialup hell and downloading 24/7 between these 5 hr disconnects. Yes i am fed up with these disconnects and have told them so
hugs

An old trick I once heard about, many, many years ago (when was that, 1997?)
The phone company will only guarantee voice over POTS. Legally, they don't have to do anything else, and they don't give a rat's ass about your internet speed. But several people have posted that if they were to order some service (such as Caller ID), the phone company would HAVE to switch something over...which resulted in 24.6 connections suddenly hitting 48K or above.
Then you cancel the Caller ID service, but they won't waste time turning off your digital. So you keep the higher connection speeds.
Also, I thought satellite started offering two-way well over a year ago...? Was it EchoStar or Hughes? Some investigation needed here, but you might be pleasantly surprised.

My wife was the EXACT same way...about 'fathom', not 'purse'. She said, "dial-up is fine, why the hell do you need to pay twice as much for this crap?" She didn't get a vote with MY 'net access, especially since she would share in the download speed increase. Now she pays half, cuz she NEVER wants to go back to dial-up, and doesn't want broadband hanging over her head...ready to be cut off anytime she pisses me offMy wife, who holds the purse, can't fathom $50 bucks a month for internet service
I got ISDN at home...
can't get cable or dsl where i live... but neighbours 100m away can... fu**ers.
Luckily, i we got a 100Mbit line at work... so no prob to download patches and other things to take with me home

Had cable net access before I moved three years ago but now I'm in the same boat as you guys. There are only two dial-up ISP's in my area(Hiwaay and Earthlink).Heck I cant even get ISDN lol.And as far as 2-way satillite it's way too expensive,$100 a month and I cant remember how much for the dish and stuff but it was over $300 I think.
