Need BIOS password help!!!

Post by JD »

Ok I picked up a motherboard off someone the other day and I can't get the bios password. The bios is an american megatrands. Tried all the universal passwords I know of: AMI, A.M.I., AMI?SW, AMI_SW, etc. and none of them worked. I found the jumper on the board and switched it to disable and it still asks for a password when I try to enter the bios setup. Please help me!

Just thinking out loud but wouldn't pulling the battery and clearing CMOS do the trick?

Unless it's a VERY secure computer (like an IBM Thinkpad) you should be able to clear it by clearing the CMOS.

How you do this is different for every mobo - read the manual. If you don't have it, download the PDF from the manufacturer's website.

USUALLY there's a jumper that clears the CMOS. Sometime a quick short of the jumpers will do, sometimes you have to leave it on there a few seconds.

Sometimes you have to pull the battery and jumper it.

Sometimes you have to disconnect it from the wall outlet before jumping it.
