HP is usually decent about their warranties - but if it's outside warrantly it's probably cheaper just to go out and get whatever 24x is on sale this week

If the burner is outside warranty it's not worth fixing. Worth calling to ask & make sure.

Keep in mind that warranties ARE NOT based on purchase date. They go by manufacture date and it's possible that it's still under warranty even if you don't think so.

Also, you DO NOT require a receipt of purchase - they go by the serial number.

Very good deal on a great burner here BTW: http://newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?d ... 27-106-175
$79 shipped! Great burner, I bought one of these last month for $90 and very happy with it. It's highly recommended around the forums

As for the HDD, Maxtor now handles all RMAs for Quantum. Go here: http://www.maxtor.com/
Go to the Support page and follow the links for warranty repair.

Not sure if Maxtor has the Quantum database online yet, but usually you can just enter the serial number and it'll tell you if it's under warranty and give you the option of filling out a form for RMA. If their database isn't up yet you'll have to call tech support.
