New Notebooks

Post by bluewhale »

Intel just recently released the mobile P4 cpu to vendors like Dell. I read a review today of the Dell 8200 which is based on the P4 1.7 Ghz CPU, uses DDR SDRAM, comes with an optional microwave oven :p

The review compared this new system with the previous 1.2 Ghz intel mobile CPU in the Inspiron 8100. What surprised me was that there was almost no difference between the two systems!

The DDR alone should have made a 20-30% difference IMSHO.

Has anybody read anything on these new notebooks which offers hope of a faster system?

wasnt all that known when the pos P4 was released? I mean we know that cpu needs atleast 400mhz to make it an equilevent speed of its P3. What ya gana do.

Oh. ::

No, not by myself anyway. I have lived pretty much in the AMD world for the past 6 or 7 years. But that still doesn't explain the lack of speed from using DDR memory. I would think doubling the memory speed would cause at least a 20% increase in system speed.

Maybe once they get used to the P4 and learn to tweak it a bit. .

i think intel chips suck now, i had an intel 486dx4 100mhz once then i put an amd 486dx4 100, it had a definate speed increase. used a landmark speed test. i been with amd ever since. :-D
