mobo recommandations for XP 1900+

Post by SnoOp_005 »

Im thinking of either MSI KT3 Ultra or Abit KR7A-133/KR7A-133RAID.
I Am i looking at the right board for an XP system? does DDR 333/2700 really matters or faster than DDR 266/2100? I know Abit boards are good for overclocking,is it the same for MSI boards?

Thanks!

I have the Iwill XP333 and love it. Go to Overclockers and check out the amd forum. Also check out theIwill forums. I don't know much about ram question other than get a brand name.

I'm running a MSI K7T266 Pro2 (non-RAID) with a XP 1700+ @ 1.6GHz (11x145MHz) rock stable @ 1.80v. My system boots up as a XP 1900+. I'm using Crucial PC2100 with all the performace parameters in the BIOS maxed out. No real problems with the board. I had some minor ones at install, but nothing a new Enermax 431w power supply could'nt fix :)
2800+ @ 3200+
ASUS A7N8X Deluxe
512meg PC3200
BFG 5950 Ultra
Audigy 2 ZS

I've tried both the XP333R Iwill and am currently using the Shuttle AK35GTR. If you're planning on unlocking your cpu and won't be using a Radeon 8500 ( mine at least. :( ) get the XP333R. If you're just gonna slap the cpu in there, raise the FSB, jack the voltage, and not unlock it, the AK35GTR is good choice as it has voltage adj for cpu core up to 2.3V. All the other KT266A boards max out at 1.85v. The Iwill goes up to 2.03v so you have some headroom with that mobo as well.

Then you have the KT333 stuff comin' out as well, so there are plenty of options. For my money, the Iwill XP333R is coolest mobo I've ever had but it wouldn't play nice with my 8500. :( I'd get another one in a hearbeat. It has ata133 that actually works and PCI dividers of 1/4, 1/5 and even 1/6 for when you take the FSB up around 190-200 FSB or so !!! Wheeeeee ! :D
AMD Ph II X4 955 BE 3.2 @ 3.8 GHz | Scythe SCSMZ-2000 | ASRock 880GMH/USB3 | 8 GB G.Skill DDR3 1600 | Radeon HD5670 | Kingston 128GB SSD

I 2nd what Vid said :D For some reason fwe have trouble with the Radeon 8500 and this board and text corruption... Only work around for it is to run 16bit color instead of 32 bit color... Thats the main reason i'm going to get a GF4 4400 here pretty soon... I want the Radeon 8500 but if it won't play nice with my Iwill i gotta go Nvidishit :(

if you check out hardOCP's write up on the kt333, it's definitely NOT better than the kt266a's...
