Athlon 64 3200+ CPU, Asus A8N-E and WinXP 64bit Edition bundle for $250!!!!

Post by FlyingPenguin »

The catch is that you order it online but have to go to the tech show to pick it up.

The Desktop bundle is a nice deal, and I'm tempted although I don't need it. I AM going to the show in Tampa on the 14th, though. I love going to these things.

Show dates:

June 2 Chicago, Illinois
June 6 Toronto, Canada
June 14 Tampa, Florida
June 16 Atlanta, Georgia
June 21 Dallas, Texas
June 23 Houston, Texas
June 27 Irvine, California
June 29 Burbank, California
July 1 Sunnyvale, California
July 12 Seattle, Washington
July 14 Vancouver, Canada
July 19 Boston, Massachusetts
July 21 East Brunswick, New Jersey

From Fatwallet:
The AMD / Microsoft Tech Tour will soon be in my area. I went to http://www.amd.com/techtour and found details on a great deal on AMD64/Mobo/XP x64 edition. Here they are:

Desktop Bundle - Price = $250
— AMD Athlon™ 64 3200+ 939 pin processor
— Asus A8N-E Socket 939 motherboard
— Microsoft® Windows® XP x64 Edition

Server Bundle - Price = $500
— 2 - AMD Opteron™ 246 CPUs
— Tyan Thunder K8SD Pro (S2882-D) motherboard
— Microsoft Server 2003 x64 Edition

Edit: Just to compare I priced the server bundle from NewEgg at $1,012!!! (S2882G3NR not S2882-D at NewEgg)

Only catch is you can reserve your bundle online but must attend the tech tour to pick up. I'd highly recommend going though because I went to one of these things in Boston and my friend I went with won a free processor. Probably 25% of the people who went got something decent like a top of the line processor and almost everyone left with a free t-shirt. Check it out!

Someone posted a breakdown of mailorder prices for the bundles:
Breakdown of the $250 Desktop deal:
($$ are quick searches on the net)

$190 Athlon 64 3200+ Socket 939
$126 Asus A8N-E
$157 Windows XP Pro x64

Total: $473'ish for $250
Verdict: Not bad but nowhere near as HOT as below deal!

Breakdown of the $500 Server deal:
($$ are quick searches on the net)

$333 AMD Opteron 246
$333 AMD Opteron 246
$712 Windows Server 2003 Standard x64
$414 Tyan K8SD Pro (S2882G3NR-D)

Total: $1792 all for $500
My own price check on NewEgg came up with the exact same prices for the desktop combo.

I'm having trouble placing the order for the desktop bundle. The shopping cart keeps telling me that I haven't entered a credit card number. No one else on Fatwallet has mentioned having problems, so I guess it's broke today. I'll try again tomorrow.

For those of you interested, one of the shows is today and some guys on FatWallet are going to report back to confirm that you can pickup the bundle at the beginning of the show and leave if you want. They'll also report on what kind of demos and giveaways there will be: http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/message ... 7&newest=1

And the first server bundle went on sale at Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 42015&rd=1

I haven't decided if I'll buy the desktop bundle or not. I DO NOT want to build anymore systems for myself. I swore that the next system would be an OEM (which I expected to buy after this Christmas sometime).

My existing Athlon 3200+ (32bit) is more than adequate for everything I play.

HOWEVER I am tempted t upgrade my LAN party rig (Athlon 2400+). The hassle is that I then have to buy a Radeon x700 Pro PCI-E for around $125 since the 9800 Pro AGP in thie existing rig can't be used, and pray the memory is compatible (it has decent DDR400 in it now which should work on that Desktop combo mobo, it's just not premium RAM). Of course I can sell the old mobo, CPU and vid card, but they're only worth around $180, so I'm still out some pocket money, and I really don't want to spend any money right now.

Still, I'd feel like an ass passing up that price. I'll think about it another day, but I'll probably order it anyway.

Even if I decide I don't want it I suppose someone here will take it off my hands.

If I had money to throw away, I'd jump on that server combo. That's an outrageous deal. Not that I need that powerful a server. My existing Athlon 2000+ more than does the job.
