Office Depot new $500 LAPTOP after rebates!!!

Post by EvilHorace »

In store only. It's because of deals like this that I won't even TRY to sell my old laptop now as I'd have to give it away :(

Except I hate that those budget HP lappies. Everytime I work on one for a client I never cease to be amazed how friggin' slow they run.

I'm sure that at that price it's hardly state of the art stuff BUT I'd have to think that it's gotta be faster than my 4 yr old Laptop with a P3 850 mhz cpu ?

I dunno Evil. Should be, and you can always return it in 30 days. Overall I haven't been very impressed at all with budget HP laptops. They're terrible performers.

I have one client (a doctor) who has one and the video lags like crazy just on the desktop unless I disable all visual eye candy in XP. Totally inexcusable for a 1 year old lappy.

Hmmm, well I thought that maybe it'd be a good deal but maybe not. Even my old Toshiba laptop plays videos, movies well. I don't need another laptop (have two now) but I thought that it might be a good deal for someone who did? Sorry. They also have other brands on sale for about $200 more but perhaps they aren't very good either?

I'd buy a Dell Inspiron 1200 first: http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/ ... 00R1&s=dhs

I just got a Dell 700m in that last sale for the wife - it has shipped so I'll report in after I have a chance to play with it - my son has my old HP lappie that I got like 2-3 years ago on a 50% off coupon deal and it has always run well and plays movies fine - it was about 1500 list at the time though, has like a 1.3 ghz athlon 512 ram - the ol' k6-2 500 that the dell is going to replace is pretty slow doing simple stuff under win98

The 700m is the upgraded version of the 600m, and the 600 is a sweet lappy. Not a powerhouse, but light and long battery life.
