Microsoft to end updates to Windows 7's free AV software, Security Essentials

Post by FlyingPenguin »

If you intend to run Win7 past January 2020, get yourself another AV other than Essentials.

Honestly, I would not recommend ANY of the free ones anymore. Nor do I like the "mainstream" intrusive bloatware AV products (Norton, McAfee, etc). If it was me, I'd get a subscription to Malwarebytes Premium.

Oh, for Pete's sake,,

Is Malwarebytes Premium a one-user SW?

They have different plans for a reasonable price. There's one that protects 3 PCs for $60 a year.

Looks like they changed their minds. I can confirm my Win7 file server is still getting Security Essential definitions as of this morning:

Microsoft says it now will continue to support Security Essentials for Windows 7
