Anyone here Jailbreak a 1rst gen Ipod Touch?
I'm asking here because I know that people here can supply details, unlike the BS info I'm finding via google (You Tube vids, POS Quickpwn website forum).
It's suppose to be easy compared to the 2nd gen Touch's but I'm not getting good info yet.
I'm stuck at the beginning where it says "browse". The best video so far doesn't show or mention his url where he gets the firmware and the firmware I've DLd so far isn't what Quickpwn is looking for.
The lack or good info online about this is amazing.
Here's the video if you want to see it:

I'm still trying to get a url from that guy (Jason). I have no idea why he told me to turn the power off, hitting the home button, BS?
If you read all the comments from the MANY vids, lots of people are having all sorts of problems, also can't find the firmware, etc, etc.
I'm wondering if it's even worth the hassle.

Best place to get FW is from Itunes it should DL 2.2.1 latest for touch install that. For quickpwn you update to latest FW (currently 2.2.1 is only supported on touch not 2.2)then run quickpwn and it prompts you when to press home and power buttons to put it in to DFU mode from there it will run the code and add cydia/install
http://www.iphone-hacks.com/downloads/i ... store.ipsw was on quickpwn's site
there all sorts of cool apps in cydia makes it worth it, love the 5 dock hack and blank app maker for empty home screen and sb settings lets you hide any usless apps
I know the feeling of druging through all the crap to figure it out the first time, took forever to figure how to jailbreak my iPhone for windows

Badmojo,
I appreciate your info but iTunes is now running 2.2.1 on my PCs and thus so is my Touch as it syncs to it daily. Therefor, to my understanding, my Touch has to already be running 2.2.1. I too DLd that same SW from Quickpwn, get string error message (can't use it).
I don't understand the procedure for pressing both power and home. Doesn't seem to do anything.
I have to say that after viewing several vids, all with the same problems (unanswered) and reading the host of unsolved, unanswered questions of others trying to do the exact same thing (plus screwing the units up), I'm in no big rush to try this until I see where more people have solutions.
I'll post this mess from Quickpwns very own forum on the subject if anyone cares to browse through it. No one there tryed to help me at all, over 130 views the last time I looked:

Seemed a little more straight forward before that.EvilHorace wrote:Badmojo,

Think im getting lost in a few things ur doing, wasnt sure in my first post if you were trying to update to 2.2.1 using quickpwn since you said you were looking for a FW if your already on 2.2.1 did you point to the itunes tmp folder with it from the Quickpwn browse option? For the DFU procedure if you get to the prompts there's not much to understand just press the button it tells you when it tells you(the timing is crucial). It was a pain in the ass to get the timing right when I originally did it with the pwnagetool. If you get me some screenshots of the problem I might be able to help more. Usually having a mac is more help since most these apps are ports to windows
Like one guy said in those forums and them spammed the rest of them he had to do a clean install before it worked so you may have some settings from regular use that are getting in way of the app, or long shot how sure are you that it is a 1g touch

Nowhere have I previously read that that's where I need to browse to. You're the first person who's mentioned that and perhaps that's all that I needed to do?did you point to the itunes tmp folder with it from the Quickpwn browse option?
Again, you're the first person who's mentioned this too AND, I've never seen a prompt to do that using Quickpwn. For the DFU procedure if you get to the prompts there's not much to understand just press the button it tells you when it tells you(the timing is crucial).
100%. I now have 3 Touches (all used or refurbished), the other 2 are 2nd gens. I have itunes on 3 PCs and 52gbs of converted cds to mp3.....took me about 2 months but I concluded that I now dislike using cds as much as I previously disliked using LPs and cassettes back in the day.how sure are you that it is a 1g touch
I figured that the 1rst gen would be easiest to Jailbreak and apparently was before Apple switched to 2.2.1. Seems like most people are having probs with the latest version which came out around January from what I'm seeing.
From those who are able to Jailbreak theres, either a 1srt or 2nd gen, I'm seeing many complain of instabilty, apps that don't work, probs then trying to sync, etc requiring a restore. Until I see where many more people are doing this w/o so many issues, OR Apple maybe upgrades to something so people won't even want to do that (?), I'm in no rush to try this anymore.
Short of changing background screens and a few other minor things, I'm not seeing much in the Jailbroken apps that really makes me want to bother anymore considering the potential for problems. Then, when Apple comes out with the 3G Ipod Touch which will then probably have a new version of iTunes, odds are good that everyone will need to Jailbreak again.

sorry to hear that, yup everytime you update requires a rehack. Ever since around V2.0 my iphone shuts it self off many times with a near full battery, and the apps from cydia dont have to go through the testing that app store ones do.
I dont see the issues clearing anytime soon which sucks cause I dont have at&t for a provider =P

ya as ego, also chargers dont have the id chips like docks and accessories so they are pretty much universal.Key Keeper wrote:Not trying to jack this thread but will a damn car charger for the ipod touch work with the iphone?
