Ok.. I did my first install of SUSE w/Gnome this AM remotely from work and I must say, it wasn't hard at all. Right now I'm just trying to nail down driver issues with the sound and video, but shouldn't be too hard. Now to see if it will run the only game that I play and some DVD replication apps and I may have a new OS! lol... So far I like it but will play with it for a while before I go one way or the other..

Posted this from Firefox in SUSE :)

congrats! i've been evaluating suse 10.1 for a few weeks and am going to also try the XGL for kicks in the next week or so as time permits. there is definitely no magic to using linux as a basic OS replacement...it just takes some work to do more of the intense stuff that is beat into our minds w/ windows. :)

Question #1... I downloaded the Linux drivers for my mobo and I can't seem to figure out how to install them? Double clicking gets it to open in Gedit which isn't the right way to go? Any ideas?

I personally like KDE instead of Gnome. Much cleaner of an interface and easier to use. But SUSE rules, I'll agree. If you like Gnome, you might try a distro like Ubuntu, and if you end up liking KDE, you can try Kubuntu. Same OS, but with KDE :P

As for your driver installation... I don't know much about Linux, so I can't help

Well what kind of file is it? I'm assuming that its from nvidia because I know of no other motherboard/chipset vendors who actually have Linux MB drivers. Also this would match up with the computer in your profile.

It looks like those drivers come as a .run file. If this is the case you can go to the console and type 'sh whatever.run' from the directory that you saved the file in to get it going. I'd also like to point out that there are directions on nvidia's site on how to do this.
