"Index error"

Post by Key Keeper »

Trying to use Acronis to create another partition using free space on my main partition and getting "index error" "press any key to restart" after rebooting. When I restart, it boots into xp fine and only shows the one partition. Tried disk check and made no difference, and reinstalled Acronis, no help. Any Ideas?
BTW, had no problem doing this before I did a fresh install of xp last week.

I don't like Acronis' partitioning software. I think it blows chunks compared to Partition Magic. I tried using it the other day and got very aggravated with it.

Be warned about acronis on server o/s as well
I spent about 2 days trying to get win2k server shares to operate and could nt make any sense out of it
uninstalled acronis bamm thing works
http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/produ ... aq.html#9a

I think they could warn people before you install it instead of letting someone waste a day and a clean install ater
hope i save someone the same greif

cheers

Interesting. I've run across that problem before, but it was caused by Norton Anti-Virus

I had that same problem, but it was caused by Norton AV that changed the default from 12 to 10 for what ever reason. I could not share another drive on my system until I changed the IRPStackSize to 15. I think the default is only 12. Changing it to 15 allowed me to share more devices.

Is there any other way to change the stack size other than modifying the reg key? I didnt have the key at all is why I ask. Created it and set the value to 15 and it still didnt work till I changed the value to 21

Key - I dont' think it's created if it's at the default value. Norton changed my default value which in turn created the modified key value. Still don't know why Norton changed it. No more Norton products for me.
