USB JumpDrive problems

Post by jtn3833 »

I had one of those USB JumpDrives for a while and it worked great, before I put it through the washing machine and dryer in a pair of jeans. The drive itself still seems to work fine on another computer (running WinXP), and the drive still shows in "my computer" but I cannot access anything on it with my system at home (running WinME).
Figuring I fried whatever circuit allowed me to run it on my WinME system I bought a new JumpDrive (Lexar JumpDrive secure 256M). On initial plugin of the drive I get two error windows, the first states,
---"This application or DLL can not be loaded on Windows 95 or on Windows 3.1. It takes advantage of Unicode features only available on Windows NT."--- After clicking OK on that, the second window pops up stating,
---"The MFC42U.DLL file cannot start. Check the file to determine the problem."--- I'm running WinME and I've already tracked down the MFC42U.DLL file and tried replacing that in my windows/system file (as well as adding it into my windows/options/cab and windows/ file. The little icon of the jump drive appears in "my computer" and I can right-click on it, I can even save to it, but I cannot open it from "my computer".
I figured I'd type this out as I continue to wait on Lexars online customer support.
Any thoughts on what I've done to myself here?
Thanks,
JTN

If it works in WinXP it should work in WinME.

I'm amazed it works at all after being washed though.

If you bought a 2nd JumpDrive and it also fails to work in your WinME system then I have to assume something is wrong with the WinME system.
