DeviceMgr ghost drivers?

Hello, I've recently formatted my hdd and reinstalled XP Pro using an OEM cd from a different manufacturer. The only thing installed right now is WinXP and Office XP.
I keep getting an error message stating "The system has recovered from a serious error...". Further snooping states "Error Caused by a Device Driver." Device Manager seems to be listing more controllers than I actually need (ghost drivers?), but I need help in figuring out which ones should be uninstalled and how to do that (cuz sometimes they come back).
I've set up some pages with images of my Device Mgr windows for convenience.
Display Adapters are posted here (but I'm sure this one is fine):

Monitors is posted here:

and USB controllers are posted here:

----Any help anyone can provide is appreciated. Thanks.
Already tried:
uninstalling all monitor drivers and both usb controllers stating '3 ports available' and '5 ports available' RESULT: they just came back on startup
