MAYBE. Not sure how McAfee works but iit wouldn't be much of a parental control program if it was THAT easy to disable. It's possible that McAfee will restrict your user account so you won't be allowed to do a System Restore.

You thought of leaving yourself an out? By that I mean taking a seemingly harmless user account, giving it admin access and setting the password. Then reboot into Safe Mode, login using this account and make necessary changes and such.

*EDIT*

There are also a few password resetters available for the legitimate people that lose the password to the admin account.

I was thinking the same thing, but have never had any programs survive a system restore.

How old are you ? and where are you going that your parents don't want you to go ?

In any case, I thought system restore only backed up system files and drivers.

Besides, McAfee would be a system install and would cover all users, so any account you make before
would also be affected with the same rights/priveledges. Norton works the same way.

Maybe it's time you convince them to invest in a machine for you to "learn skills for the future".

Well I just finished wiping and doing a clean install of Windows XP for a couple with a 14 year old son. Said son downloaded everything and anything and the system was so badly compromised with trojans that it was being used as a pron server by a warez group and the drive was full of videos.

I rarely write off a Windows install, but this one was totally hopeless.

His parents weren't too happy with the $325 it cost for a clean Windows install, re-install of all their software, and installation of a router and firewall.

Wouldn't be suprised if he gets his user account restricted as well....
