Ok, it's a great program and all but I think it works a little too well :) I mean, whenever I host ANY game (half-life, Quake2, Quake3, etc) people can't join my game. Right when I close ZoneAlarm and host again, they can. I don't get it?

I have the program set so that it can acces the internet. I have it set so it can do everything. Every little checkbox, I have checked, so it's fine. I can join games fine, just my friends can't join mine.

Anybody else have this problem or know of a fix? Or should I just shut it down when I wanna play online? (that kinda sucks)

I have all my game set so that there is a check next to:

allow connect

allow server

It doesn't do anything. Like I said, I can join fine, but when it comes to hosting, it's as I am not even on the net (yet I am)

Man has far as I am concerned there is no such thing as a firewall working too good. I use Nortons and I have to shut it down to join an online game even when I am not the one hosting it and to me it is well worth it maybe I am just paroniod but I don't want anyone getting in to my PC My nephew used to laugh at me and swore he didn't need a firewall even though he was on a cable modem. Did you notice I said "used to" he got hacked they wiped out his hard drive and left a message saying "look what we did"

That would have sucked dadx2mj. I'm not having a problem of NOT using it, I have it on ALL the time. I just don't like how I have to shut it down if I host a game (or else people won't be able to join) I mean, while it's down, theres that window of opportunity for hackers :) Oh well, I'll just live with it. I was mainly curious if anybody else was having this problem.

I dunno I seem to remember hosting games before with ZA on. Try setting the internet security lower when you want to host a game.

That may be it, JMan. Right now I have under security:

Local: Medium

Internet: High

I'll find out next time I host a game.

Having never hosted I am not sure about this but, Do you get the pop up message(zonealarm) showing you that it stopped someones access. Take a look at what port they are trying to access(do they all try to access the same port?) and leave that port opened during game play. I dunno, maybe?

Nope, no box shows up. I have yet to host a server with the settings lowered, but I'll try it later today. I don't see where ZA tells you what port they are trying to access. Nice guesses though. If worse comes to worst, I'll just shut it down when I want to host a game.
