Lost left pane when viewing folder contents

Running Win 2k:

This isn't using explorer, but just opening up a folder or drive with the web view on the left and the entries on the right. The preview pane is gone. Happened before and I had to re-install Win 2k to get it back but I reaslly don't want to do that again.

I'm sure it is a registry edit solution. If you look under: winnt\web the wvleft.bmp is the file that creates this view. I know this because I deleted it once before (not on this machine) and the same thing happened. It would be the same as checking under folder options the use windows classic folders instead of web view. You CAN'T just re-check that and then click on folder views: like current folder. That WON'T work!

Something changed the registry so that the bitmap that windows needs to create that view doesn't get pointed or referenced to.

At least that's what I think. I hope you understand that I'm NOT refering to the dual pane of Explorer!

I have run a virus check and it comes up clean.

I can't help with your problem, but get this. I'm running Win98, and in explorer, in the right pane, if I have 'view details' selected, nothing shows up! All the other views work, just not this one..haha!

Yeah, it is on mine. I really only use it so I don't have to double click everything.

No to active desktop (resourse hog), but that doesn't matter if it is enabled or not!

Have you looked through your folder options, in the folder itself?

You didn't by chance use TweakUI to disable the "Explorer Enhancements" did you?

In the IE Tab of TweakUI, if you uncheck "Shell Enhancements" you lose a lot of the IE integration with the GUI - you also dramatically improve performance on older systems.

You lose the ability to view Explorer windows in HTML, you lose the toolbars on the taskbar and several other things.

I think I want to try the IE 6 route, but I want to get the whole file NOT just the setup file and then download the install files (that 2 part deal same as Netscape that I don't like)
Do you know a site that has the WHOLE program. There is a site that has the whole Netscape program without the 2 step deal.

I downloaded and installed IE 6 with the update after that.

Nothing different, didn't fix anything, still no left pane!

Did a search on Google newsgroups and came up with this link that might help:

That message board was very hard to follow. It didn't seem to answer the question in the first place!

Thanks anyway.

Go here to see the solution:

Part way down, someone mentioned a utility to repair this problem (reconstruct some files that might be missing). Here's the link:

http://www2.cajun.net/~theriots/blk/view_web.htm

Also there's this reference to the MS KB: http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... S;q193110&
