how to convert vcd/mpg to DivX avi format?

I borrow several vcd from my friend and wanted to rip them.
since I'm kinda short on cdr I would just want to compress the files into DivX format to save up space in my harddrive.
Any program that works nice? i've tried vcd cutter but didn't seem to very good.. too time consuming..

Most programs will take time to encode. Try looking at http://www.vcdhelp.com Lots of help on that site.
