Windows 8 will be available Oct.26 2012
And another update. Once you pay for it, you'll receive a key & a receipt. Then it'll start downloading. It is doing so in assumption that you plan on installing it when it's done. You can just let it download & when it gets to the end, it asks you to start the installation and gives you 3 options.
1. Install Now
2. Install by creating media
3. Install later from your desktop
I chose to create media. This will give you the choice of making the ISO or bootable flash drive. I made the ISO first & it completed and closed. However, a shortcut was left on the desktop called "Install Windows". If you click on this, it'll bring you back to the menu & you can also make a bootable floppy or just plain install if you're ready.
I may just have to buy a couple more copies for future use now that I see how it works.

Not sure yet if I'll want to run Win8 on my new Desktop with Win7 as that runs perfectly as-is. Don't want to loose any Steam games either.

FP was having issues, as his keys were rejected. Curious what keys you used in order to get the download.normalicy wrote:And another update. Once you pay for it, you'll receive a key & a receipt. It seems to vary greatly & not in any particular pattern for the key thing. I didn't have to enter any key. I did it with Opera. However, others have had to enter a key. I entered "other" for computer brand & selected a random model number from an off brand PC at Microcenter.FP was having issues, as his keys were rejected. As far as I know, you are able to upgrade from XP on up. Though, you may need to do a clean wipe to do so. Oh and by the way, I chose the delete everything option if that makes a difference. Is it only from Win7 upgrade or does it work from Vista?

When I ran the page the first time, I just said I bought a PC from Dell. It was a Dell. And I used the model number of some of the PCs we've been using from work. I never had to enter a key. Just some random Latitude model number and a random date... however, again, I'm not suggesting you do such horrible things to bypass it, but if you were to... oh, I dunno... say you bought a Latitude E6530 within a certain date period...

Well, I finally bit the bullet and installed Windows 8. Since I have to learn how to use it and I wouldn't if I had any sort of alternative, I installed it on my main rig... upgrade over a fairly fresh and updated Windows 7 install. I took the plunge, and while I hit concrete on my way down, I'm surprised it's slowly softening. I'll write a bit more after I get over the shock.
