i turn my pc on, then i get the error chkdsk /f
i used the recovery console from the xp disk, but that failed to work as i still get the same error.
i then just installed xp onto a 2nd hdd i had inside the pc as a new installation. i then did a chkdsk /f on the original xp installation and still it fails to work. i am at a loss at to which method or procedure i should try next.
any tips are appreciated, the machine is a p4, the nonworking xp is on a 40 gig wd

Download the drive manufacturer's diagnostic utility from their website. Run the full (advanced) diagnostic (it'll take a while). If you get an error code and no prompt to fix it, the drive is bad.
