Resetting Accounts

Post by honz »

Strange situation here. I seemed to have locked myself out of a laptop I am working on.

It's a Win2k machine NTFS partition. I know that you can wipe the accounts and reset administrator by wiping the SAM files. However, I seem to be at a loss on how to actually do that.

Using a DOS boot disk doesn't allow you to access NTFS partitions, correct? And I can't boot into Safe Mode because it requires you to logon. I'm not real familiar with DOS, so is there a utility that would allow me to see the partition? I'm not quite sure what I'm missing, but I'd appreciate input.

TIA

Honz! Long time!

I saw a thread and judg3 answered the problems in it. I even used it once myself so far. Hope this helps.

Looks like you may need to email him for that floppy image.

ya, I know it's been awhile. I still try to come by and 'ghost' (read the posts) but it's hard when I don't have a connection at home.

thx, I tried the ntfs reader from ntfs.com, but that only allows you to read and not write or delete.
Just pm'ed judg3 hopefully he still has it ;)

Hey

Check out this program at http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html

It works on XP for sure. Basically it uses Linux to hack the SAM files and you can reset the account and password! Creating a blank password is usually the easiest.
