Hyper threading os

Post by busheadfox »

Will windows 2000 professional work with hyper threading on a system board that supports it with a 3.06gig cpu. Some people are saying that only XP will support it and some have said that win 2000 will work also. Whats the real story on hyper threading os systems

Win2k pro will work. Any SMP OS will work on an HT proc and show it as 2 CPUs (Linux/Win2k/XP/etc).
So don't worry!

This is what Intel site said about hyper threading. I'm not sure it they are saying it will not work with win2k or they just dont support it.

Nah it'll work, just not as well as XP, reason they don't recommend 2000 is because Windows 2000 supports multiple CPUs, but misidentifies the HT chip as two physical processors instead of merely two logical ones. I could of sworn that a buddy of mine was using win2k. From the review sites tho, it shows them not recommending win2k, which is odd. Though Linux does work on it like it's supposed to.
So apparently I was wrong lol. Sorry, I had no idea it worked that way - even though I think Win2k will still work.
