Ok, I burnt my last cpu tryin' to put a heatsink on it so I finally got my new one. Now, anytime i try to up the FSB to overclock just a measly 50MHz or even less, when I get into windows, I loose my mouse. I mean, it's on the screen, but I can't move it. But when I clock it back down to default, it's fine? What da hell?

[edit]
Ok, here's how I burnt my last CPU. I don't wanna sound _completely_ stupid :) The heatsink story is rather long and boring, but basically, I had the bare chip (no heatplate/clips/casing--nothin!) and I tried to attach the VOS32 directly to the core. I screwed up somewhere...

We aren't about to tell a person like you that you may have to raise the vcore... because we don't want to be responsible if you fry another one ;)

Sometimes a BIOS update is needed or a patch to obtain higher speeds. Too bad we don't know your system specs.

PS2/USB/Serial ?

Is it effected by FSB speeds?

Was it oK on the old CPU when you upped the bus speed?
A little crazy, but safe enough

Yeah, I guess I didn't add a lot of info? haha. So yeah, it's a slot-a 650 and I'm using my IntelliMouse Explorer USB. The chip is cool right now, I just kept the casing and everything on it for now. I have the latest BIOS.

I never tried overclocking majorly (no more than 50MHz) with my last chip but I swear I remember being able to change the multiplyer on it in BIOS and I can't do it on this new one. So yeah, I guess upping the FSB at any speed higher than default, it would screw with my USB 'controller?'.

It's good guess...someone will help I am sure.
Unless your memory isn't up to the job! Is it PC133? Needs to be.

128meg of PC133 CL2 Crucial memory. Seems like good stuff to me? Though that's somethin' I didn't try. I should load BIOS-Defaults and then try to o'c it since I do have my memory all tweaked. Though I'd like to think it could handle a measly 50MHz without havin' to take down some of the 'tweaks' I did. I'll try that tomarrow anyways.

Just tried the fail-safe settings and it didn't work. I made sure the USB controller was enabled too. I also tried raising the voltage .5 and it didn't help. I guess I could always try this mouse PS/2 since it seems the keyboard works.

Damn queer motherboard...

Ok, update (if any of you are still lookin' here, heh). I upped the FSB and I got to use my mouse at the login screen, but when I logged in, it froze (the mouse) What?!?! This doesn't make any sense. maybe I just didn't give the mouse long enough at the startup screen, but still--what the hell is goin' on?

I would try taking the USB->PS/2 converter and using that but I'm already using an AT->PS/2 converter for my keyboard and they both won't fit (hah, need to get rid of some of this ancient BS!)

oh well, not so much a mouse problem anymore.

BEEEEEEEP BEEP BEEP. Won't post at 105/35 at 1.7v. I guess I'm just not cut out for overclocking; I just give up. It ain't worth overclocking if you can't get atleast 100MHz (in my mind) and I can't even push 26MHz.
