If my computer has been off for a while and I turn it on, I get a blank screen and the HD led is on but no boot up screen or beeps.

If I just turned off my computer and then turn it on in like 30 seconds it works. Not all the time though.

I tried lowering my cpu speed back down to normal but still no go. It happened before. I thought it was an overclocking problem so I redid the lead on the cpu and it worked fine but now it's acting up again.

Must I reapply the lead over and over again ? Is there something more permanent. Has anyone else had this problem with pencil lead ?

Yes You will have these problems using pencil graphite. I solder them but the pencil is the easiest.

I see, damn. I guess this is what I get for doing it the easy way, I would solder mine but I don't have a steady hand when I'm nervous.

Just remember to pencil it up every month.

still makes me laugh that one. Hey could it be your monitor isn't booting? Try turning it off and then back on, but only your monitor.

Mine does that sometimes, for some reason doesn't accept the "on" signal from the graphics card. Did it with the last three cards too, so it's the monitor not the PC!

Zak33, I tried turning the monitor off and back on but still no go.

Saturn got it right. I have to redo the lead every once and a while when my system, for lack of better word, bugs out.
