the Girlfriend got a new vid card yesterday... Saphire 9600 128, not a bad lookin card for 170 CAD (taxes and 2-3 day shipping included)
and when she fired up 3D mark 2001se she was less then happy at her 1000 mark gain due to the under powered Duron 1ghz that was pushing the system
bottom line, rushed out and bought a new 2200+ for her K7SEM v1 mobo, now I flashed this thing with the newest bios awhile back and even again after the trouble but...
it seems that if I try to run the 3D Mark with the 1.8 Athalon in here, the system freezes up fast....
but if I put the 1 ghz back in it runs fine...well as fine as it can I spose...
what's up?? could it be the RAM being sucky? it's Kensington RAM... 256 133 mhz
maybe it was good enough for the 1 ghz but not the 1.8??
just did a fresh install of WinXP pro as well... same problems...
I need to borrow some ram and test it out... see if it can do any better...
but any ideas as to what I can do? anybody with 2200+ and K7SEM exp?? LMK !!
thanks!
Blargh!! probs with new CPU...

Alright, changed the CPU back to the 1GHz and ran 3DMark no problem.
Swapped Mobo's for Epox Ep-8KHM. Has 256MB of DDR 2100. Reformatted, and now can not install Window XP. Trying with a different CPU now....Duron 1.3GHz.
I really dont understand what the hell is going on here. Anyone have any insight as to why the comp wont want to start? Or why it keeps freezing??
Any help would be great.

diggin this up...
Its funny that you say that it could be the PSU... it blew
lol
but I swapped out the mobo for the epox one that I got from...Nexus7? I think heh
And I blew a couple of capacitors in the PS so... I dunno if thats becuz it was just a crappy PSU or just becuz it was crappy Caps.... so anyway I threw the PSU from my Woody (the vcr mod P3 I made) and used that for awhile but it made the case around 40-45 degrees inside... stupid thing blew the PSU heat BACK INTO the case )*so being cheap and broke as I am I went out and bought 2 new caps for 3 bux, checked the diodes as well (they were good) and then soldered em to have a perfectly working PSU
so all solved! thx for the help guys!
