Mobile XP2600+ : OCing tests finished

Post by VidmanII »

Updated: See my last post for final OCing results. :)

Well I got my XP Mobile Athlon today and slapped it into my KT6 Delta LSR.

BAD NEWS is that it defaults to a 15x multi both with 5.2 and 5.4 BIOS. No matter what multi I try , 15x is what I get. Major suckage on that aspect. Either they're locking these things or it's gonna take an nforce2 in order to use variable multipliers. I just spent an hour trying different combos to no avail.

I'll try it on the kidz' Shuttle AN35N-Ultra nForce2 tomorrow when they're at school. :|

GOOD NEWS is that I'm currently running 15x166 FSB which checks in at 2505.67 MHz at 1.775v !! Air cooling. SLK800 w/ 80mm / 53CFM fan.

Looks like I'm gonna have to check into some pin mods or do some bridge work on here in order to change the multi.

Just thought I'd let the KT600 folks know that , at least on my mobo, Mobile 2600+'s are NOT multiplier unlocked.

Here's the code on the chip for anyone who's interested.

AXMG2600FQQ4C
IQYHA0401UPMW

week 1 '04 , made in Malaysia.

I've only had about 3 hours to play with it at this point so I'll post back tomorrow with anything that might be interesting. These ARE major OCers tho. That I'm sure of. I'm only about an hour into prime95 so it's too soon to tell if it's stable here. Did run a 3dmark 2001SE with no probs tho.

That's really strange about the multiplier being locked, everything I've read on these is that it ISN'T. They don't lock mobile versions due to the throttling down of the cpu for notebooks, to save on battery power. I'm guessing it will unlock for you in the Nforce mobo.

GREAT OVERCLOCK though! Run a few benchmarks if you get a chance...........

It is pretty bizarre. Especially when by my calculations, a 2600+ Mobile ( stock speed 2.130 GHz ) would work out to 133 * 16x, not 15x. Add in the fact that 15x is the highest multi choice in my BIOS......it makes me wonder if it's not locking on the highest multiplier available. It was strictly a "no go" when I tried 10x thru 13x. I even tried 6x and 8x but no luck.

Still, It ran prime95 all nite at 15x166 ( 2505 MHz ) and this morning I've cranked down the mem timings to cas2-2-2-6 1T, 4-way interleavve, Fast command etc. Benchmark wise, It's mopping the floor, in everything except Sandra mem tests, with my Barton 2500+ which was running 11x209 (2.3 GHz ) .

That ain't 2 shabby. :D

thnaks, vid, I've been reading about these - like i really need more cpu's im my drawer :)

mebbe the bios on the kt600 is having trouble recognizing it?

these things are supposed to be very good overclockers

post whether it unlocks in the nforce board - which benches are similar on the barton?

hmm.....wonder if one of these would fit in my hp laptop which already has a mobile 1400+, hehe

this guy got it to boot @3.0ghz on water at huge voltage

Interesting in that the BIOS does indeed see it as a Mobile XP. ( doh ! )

I'm putting the screws to it here w/ Sethpa ( via ICQ ) and so far we have it up to 2602 MHz @ 15 x 173.50 FSB with everything max'd out in the BIOS.

Ram timings are screwed down tight like in the above post. I didn't even up the vcore from what I was running at 2.5 GHz. Still at 1.775v, chugging thru the first part of prime95. Time will tell, but so far so good.

Seems like it's specifcally the KT6 Delta I have ( terrific :( ) . Got response back from a fellow KT6 owner that the proc isn't locked on his KV7 ( Abit KT600 ) but it is on his MSI like mine. I wouldn't sweat buying any mobile processors and worrying about them being locked. It's just my dumb mobo. :mad

Oh well. mobos are cheap. Have to grab something else guess.

Not a bad move from what I'm seeing. I've leveled out at 2.56 GHz / 1.75v, prime stable. I can run 2.6 GHz prime stable but I have to leave the side panel off and I don't care to do that what with having a couple cats running around here.

I was able to pull an RMA number from Newegg for this KT6 Delta and have opted for a DFI Infinity Ultra ( nForce2 ) as a replacement. Hate to part with the MSI as it's great for RAID but I get occaisional cold boot probs with it and it's getting a bit annoying. Probably just run a single Raptor on there as most of the Nforce RAID controllers are pretty lame. Ask Nascarfool. :laugh

i'll need to rework my main system a little - actually put on those nb heatsinks and put on a better fan - i have an sk800 or whatever but not much fan - i also have another nforce 400fsb mobo to try it in

should have them by the weekend and if not big "home improvement" stuff can fiddle then

just sprung for $1k+ for electrical work at the ol' homestead

Everywhere I have read- the avg for 2400 2500 and 2600 is about 2.4 to 2.6
Even the suposed "bad overclockers" are hitting 2.2-2.3- like thats bad ;)
2.3 would be considered a freakin awesome desktop 2500+

Here's some bench screenies of what one of these mobile's look like runnin' at 2.6 GHz. These are from my main rig with all my shait loaded in etc. Not just bare OS benchmarks.

Vid card is not OCed but rather set to where I actually have it for everyday use.

System is prime95 stable provided I leave the side panel off. I don't , so I run 2.56 GHz with it on.

Don't make fun of my Sandra mem scores or else I'll put up my RAID 0 bench and make you cry !! :D System is at 15x173 FSB ( 2602 MHz ) on a KT6 Delta LSR MSI mobo.
