8RDA+ Cooling..

Post by eGoCeNTRoNiX »

Yah, I know there's one of these already.. But I figured I'd start a new.

I pulled the Northbridge HS off the board (came off easy) and I'm wondering if there isn't a better "active" cooling method out there? Or should I just clean this one up throw some paste on it and replace it? Aslo for the SB, should I try some epoxy instead of the tape? Any ideas or thoughts appreciated..

One of these days when I feel like pulling the mobo I am going to pick up a chipset cooler with a fan on it and put it on the northbridge and use some thermal epoxy to mount the passive cooler from the northbridge onto the southbridge. I have seen others do this and it seems to work pretty good.

Ego .... I've been using a Vantec Iceburg cooler on my northbridge since I built my 8RDA and have had no problems ,fits perfectly , the only thing I did was add a little extra thermal paste since the northbridge isn't perfectly flat and I am not brave enough to try to sand it , by the way get the vantec Copper kit it comes with a heatsink that you can use on the southbribge and the kit is only $12 at NewEgg, P.S. I just used the thermal tape for the southbridge heat sink

Well.. I think I'm gonna see how the passive cooling does for right now.. If it doesn't cut it with the CPU HS/F (Tt 9 Volcano) that's going to be used on this rig, then I'll throw some active on it. But the Tt Volcano 9 (on full speed) pushes A LOT of air over the NB on the mobo I'm using now. So that will probably do the trick. If it doesn't, I'll look into active cooling. Active cooling is probably going to be a must though.. heh.. eGo
