So, I'm using the stand alone C-Media 8738. It has 5 ports, line out, line in, microphone, rear speaker, center speaker/sub.
If you're using C-Media sound built into a mobo, you have 3 ports. Line out, line in, microphone. What you can do is: plug your front speakers into the line out, the rear speakers into the line in, and the center/sub into the microphone, making the origional funcions of the latter two void, and all the speakers should work fine.
I have the stand alone card w/ 5 ports. I have the Klipsch Pro Media 4.1's. So, I'm using the Line Out and the port for the rear speakers. Only, when I enable the 4.1 setup, it disables the line in. This would make sense if I were using the C-Media setup on a given mobo, but I have a stand alone card. I'm using my line in, so...it's real problem for me to not have that option. And, it seems very stupid to me to have to disable my rear speakers every time I want to listen to my record player (that's what's plugged into my line in).
I've tried going to the website, and the updated software they offer is unavailable (just a broken link). I can't e-mail them to ask them the questions I'm asking in this thread, or ask them to fix the link to the updated software, because the link to e-mail the company is also broken. Just get a 404 error. So, I'm kind of on my own here. Not really sure what to do.
I'm tight on money, so I wouldn't be able to go out and get another sound card for a while. I go to college in 3 weeks, and would really like to have this problem resolved by then.
If there's nothing I can do about the sound card, would it be possible to enable the sound on my mobo, and just use the line in on it w/o causing any conflicts? Maybe someone else who has a similar setup that can offer some suggestions?
Thanks in advance, and sorry for all the reading
