2500 XP 333fsb? Ram? new system!

Post by canton_kid »

I'm thinking on buyng more parts again :)

I saw Newegg had a retail 2500XP 333FSB for about $129 (I think that's the price, looked at lots of stuff)

Anyway is that worth upgrading to for the next system? Or just buy another 1700xp for about $55 for now?

Currently I am running all 1700XPs and just built one 2000XP, not done yet (needs larger hard drive).
Installed a 2gig drive in a 2000xp system :(

Well I thought it was cute, 2000XP with 2000 windows with 2000mb hardrive :)
Actually the only extra dirve I had handy really :(

So whats the thought on 2500xp? I'll buy a M/b that supports 333fsb anyway, but should I get the 2500xp with 333fsb for that price, or wait till it drops and either buy it cheaper or a 2800XP or higher when they drop? I normally draw the line at $150 tops for anything and preffer to stay under $100.

The way prices drop so fast now, I got the attitude if you don't pay much you can't lose much.

I'm happy enough with the 1700's but I want the new system mainly for video editing and animation rendering. I want speed for that :)

What's recommended for most speed, at best prices?
Also whats the best low cost DDR ram I should use? Tons of names floating around, newegg has 512DDR from about $50 a stick up too $100 a stick.

Is it better to get twice the ram at a lower speed, like 2 512mb PC2700 or 1 512mb pc 3300??
Is more ram faster, or faster ram faster?
So far I normally go for 2 256 sticks since I can break them up to two systems durring a new build.

Next system is all purpose, but mostly dedicated to video production.

I plan to install my ATI AIW 7500radeon, a DVD burner, and a CD burner. lynksys 10/100 lan, on board sound 6.1, and a couple hard drives. All tucked into a black Dragon tower case.

Sugestions apreciated on this new system.
