WinXP oddity with audio CD

I put my LiteOn 48x CD drive in a usb 2.0 enclosure to use for installs and audio CD playing. I played "Eagles- Hell Freezes Over" using the latest WinAmp. I closed WinAmp without stopping the CD and it continued playing without WinAmp being loaded. There were no audio programs loaded as per the task manager and [url=http://www.prcview.com%20to]Prcview[/url] . Why did the audio CD continue playing ? The task manager showed 2% CPU usage while the CD was still playing.

Maybe WMP took over? No idea....
