Case open detection? Shuttle AK35GT2

I was just looking at the specs for some Motherboards.

The Shuttle AK35GT2 is supposed to have some type of case open detection.

Hmmmmmmm, interesting. I don't recall having seen anything about that in the manual book when I had it. How does that work and what does it do?

As you may recall I could not get that board to do anything but beep. Any chance that case open detection could have caused the no post. Case was always open of course!

I don't recall seeing anything about a switch connector on the board to connect any wires to. So is that like a sensor built onto the board maybe? SOmething similar to a light or motion senser? WIll the system not boot if the case is open? Or, does it just pop up a warning durring boot? Could this maybe have been my problem?

I would not think so myself, but it did cross my mind since nothing else worked to get it to boot.

Got an E-mail today (automated) newegg got the Rma'd board yesterday. I checked and the site shows they have them in stock again now. SO I should be getting a new board of the same model.

Also Shuttle support seems to be real garbage! Tried to contact support weeks ago and after filling in the form and clickling submit the page cannot be found! Same exact problem again today! WHy even have a contact page if it never works?? Been a month trying it at least with the same problem, and using different computers too, so I dought it has to do with my browser.

i have the same baord and I run it with case off most of the time - i remember seeing something in the bios but I don't think it will stop a boot - probably just a bad board

ok, I didn't think it should matter abbout the case being open , but gee I didn't think the Thomas Register would take my credit card info on a secure encrypted server then send it back to me in an e-mail either, but they did!


Glad to know other people don't close thier case too

I have thought about asking for a discount and they can keep the left side cover when I buy a new case!

I too am glad to know I'm not the only one who runs his PC w/the side off 95% of the time. I spend too much time adding too and pulling and testing parts to actually shut the case.. Just too much effort.. (or I'm too lazy, take you pick) lol.. eGo!

Same here.

Plus I am in a very dusty area. Rural dirt road a few hundred feet away, Pollon from the woods turn the cars green at times, and top it all off with indoor woodheat! I try not to make much dust when I empty the burner but the ash is so fine it just goes POOF when I put it in the bucket.

Needless to say I clean the fans and heat sink faily often, plus I dont' want air sucked in through the drives. Should have seen in one of my old floppie and CD drives I took apart! Course the old cases did not have all the new fangled air holes these new ones have so the exhaust fans sucked air in through any gaps it could find.

Got an invioce from newegg. From what I could tell they have shipped my new board. Either that or sent a refund?

SHowed -1 for quantity, $73, fedex shipping 0, balance 0 ect..

Normally I just get an E-mail from places that say your item was shipped, not an invioce so I am a little puzzled.

Anyway I should know tommorrow and if it was shipped hopefully have it Friday

I'll have to get this system fired up. Went away for the weekend. SO far only booted it to make sure it worked, and I got to bios.

Man too much to do, modding a case, building the kid this system, just got my castng and molding supplies today. Going away for a week this comming weekend!

Grrrrrrrr, any other time I am looking for stuff to do, now I ain't got time to get it all done at once!

And the car just got a noise too, the one I am taking on the trip!!
