he told me his vcore won't go any higher without soldering pieces on his motherboard, and he wants to avoid doing that.

Your pretty much at your limits with that 1.33. I wouldn't even try going for higher. You need more Vcore if you want to go higher but i'll tell you now most Tbirds topped out right around 1.6 gig

I have a 1600+ XP with air cooling i can run 1.9 gig stable. I'm sure with water cooling i could hit 2 gig with it but that might be pushing it. Newegg has the 1600+ for 53 shipped. Its actual clock speed is 1.4 Gig but the ones that are out right now overclock like mad.

Gotta go with Pred there.I have an xp1600 sitting idle 'cause I can't run it too hard with the board it's on (FIC- AD11) and If I could the stepping isn't correct to make o/cing worth the trouble.Another issue is as allways the o/s you are running.I haven't had the time but I used to run several o/s under 'normal' circumstances - BeOs QNX Solaris xenix and a few estoric o/s'es with no problem after fudging with hardware and it allways seemed as if timing was an issue when things went to shit..hummmm go figure...Stick to your guns and accept the speed that - that T-bird Will do, It's a good chip.I don't know what you have in mind but if your looking for game performance ask Predetor,Flying Pengiun,And a few others about the various choices in video hardware and you'll see that your chip speed is only a part of your total soulition to having some fun! BTW I run a watercooled xp1800 that I have to clean up one of these days on an abit at-7 board in a lian-li pc-70 server tower.Hate to type this But I just realized what you were asking.sorry to ramble

I've read on several occasions that the XP1700 is a very good overclocker.

Also, with it's smaller die size compared to the T'bird you should be able to get a bit more from it with your current setup, as it will be inherently cooler.

Good luck!
